As I discussed before heart disease is the leading cause of death in some minority groups. Instead of writing something, I decided to post this clip which very briefly explains what heart disease aactually is, this just gives a basic understanding.

More information on diabetes

Diabetes is the leading cause of death among minorities. The type of diabetes is usually type 2, which is when the body does produce insulin but the body is resistant to it. There is also type 1 diabetes which is when the body does not produce insulin. Unlike type 2, type 1 diabetes cannot be reversed regardless of the individuals change toward a healthy lifestyle. This information would be helpful not only to the minority population but also to health care providers and promoters. This is a growing problem and can be resolved with awareness, the right tools and participation. The links below are websites that go more in-depth about this issue and many others. I just chose to discuss this one because it is a growing problem that needs to get under control. It is a problem that we actually have some soultions for and have control over, but it still is the leading cause of death for minorities.

Introduction

I chose this topic because I am interested in the health differences and similarities between different ethnic groups. Minorities, primarly African American and Hispanic are at high risk for certain health problems. Health disparitites among ethnic groups are rising in the United States. Information and education about these health concerns can be useful to those interested in the topic and also health professionals.
The following are the top leading causes of death for different race and ethnic groups in the U.S According to the CDC's Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities (OMHD).
African American population- Heart disease
Hispanic/ Latino - Heart disease
Asian American- Cancer
American Indian- Heart disease
